Suffering is a great question that goes back to even early biblical times. It is a fact of life that we will all suffer. Whether you are the greatest christian in history, or the most evil atheist the world has known-all will deal with suffering & disaster at some point in life.
So Why Does God Allow Innocent People to Suffer?
My answer is that I believe God sometimes permits bad things to happen, because He eventually will fix everything in the future.
Bad things happen to both good & bad people. Even the bible points this out. In the book of Job, Job was one of the most perfect human beings alive at this point in time. Yet he had a rough time (all his kids died, he was rich & lost all his wealth, his friends turned on him, and he developed blistering sores from head to toe that hurt & itched. Even though he was such a good man, and committed no sin at this point in time, God allowed him to go through this.
The reason in this particular situation is because God was proving to satan that Job would not curse him or reject him even if calamity struck. God was right.
But bad things happen for all sorts of reasons. Sometimes it is our fault, sometimes it is something unknown to us like in the situation of Job.
But here is the thing you have to remember, even though life seems hard, we all have problems, we all lose loved ones, and we all die ourselves-God won’t forget about us. He will bring us all back for judgement–and give us our reward.
Picture it like this: You play some video game (for example: Halo). Lets say the video game has people, and the people can die under some circumstances. You don’t want them to die, but they can. Also, bad things may happen in the video game. They may get wounded, diseased, or whatever.
It may seem bad to the person experiencing it in the actual game, but you know that it is all just temperary because you can easily hit the reset button & bring them back to life.
I think that is how God views it. He feels our pain & understands what we go through. He doesn’t want us to hurt, and he hurts with us. Even Jesus wept when Lazarus died, even though He brough Him back to life a few moments later.
But at the same time He knows he can & will stop it in the future, and lost lives will be resurrected and granted either eternal life or eternal death.
So even if someone was born & tortured their whole life, God will make it right in the end. This life is so short, it is nothing compared to eternity!! Trust in the bible’s promise that God is a JUST God. He is Fair, He is love!
