I recently seen this question, and decided to respond: Why does God want us to worship Him? He doesn’t do enough for us, and life sucks.”
First I would like to comment on the first part of your paragraph. You said He doesn’t do anything for us, and the world sucks. I totally agree with you about the world sucking. It can have its bad moments.
We will all die, we will have illnesses to deal with, we will lose loved ones, and we will have failures and disappointments. Life can be rough at time, and people have felt this way since the beginning of time. I have personally felt this way as well several times.
But the thing you have to remember is this: Even though it seems like life sucks right now, this isn’t the way it is going to be forever. God has made a promise since the first book of the Bible that He will put an end to this in the future. One day all this stuff that seems so pointless and miserable, will not seem so bad.
When a kid dies of cancer and it seems so unfair and tragic, suddenly it won’t seem so bad when that kid is going to live forever in the presence of God in complete happiness and never die again.
So I have learned that when I get down, I try to focus on the positive.
Also, I would like to point out that even though life sucks sometimes, it also has its incredible moments. I try to focus on the positives in life, and set goals and be the best I can be. This means work hard, love everyone, forgive people, and do my best to follow God’s teachings and instructions.
Now, about why God thinks He is worthy of worshipping. You have to keep in mind, that throughout history, people were incredibly stupid. I mean, they would worship golden calfs, kill their own children for a sacrifice to some random “god” and even worse.
God is simply saying, “hey, worship me and only me, not these dumb fake gods that cause you to sin.” Not that He just loves to be worshipped, but just to worship Him alone. Also, I find it interesting that God specifically warns against Idols. Idols represent a material thing. God is the only non-material thing, and can’t be represented by an image.
Also, from my perspective He does deserve worship. He is the only thing in existence that was never created, and will never end. Even the universe had a beginning (according to most scientific theories), but God is the thing that never had a start. God IS. So the point before time or the universe began, there was only God.
