What does the Bible say about aliens (extra terrestrials) or UFO spacecraft? Do aliens exist? Did Jesus talk about aliens? Is it possible God created aliens on other planets in the universe?
This is a great question, and people have often claimed stories of sightings, UFO crashes, alien abductions, etc. Some people claim to have videos, pictures, scrap metal (supposedly from spaceships), and other “evidence” of alien encounters. However, what does the Bible teach about the concept of aliens? Could aliens really exist? Do the scriptures ever reference aliens?
We do have an estimated 100 Billion galaxies in the HUGE universe, so is it possible aliens exist in one of those galaxies?
What Does the Bible Say About UFO’s or Aliens? Do They Exist? Is There Life on Other Planets?
The Bible never specifically mentions UFO’s or aliens, nor does it ever come out and say there is life on another planet. However, it does mention other beings besides humans (angels, demons/fallen angels, and other creatures). It also mentions a very strange event in the Book of Ezekiel, starting in chapter 1 verse 4:
Eze 1:14 And the living creatures ran and returned as the appearance of a flash of lightning.
Eze 1:15 Now as I beheld the living creatures, behold one wheel upon the earth by the living creatures, with his four faces.
Eze 1:16 The appearance of the wheels and their work [was] like unto the color of a beryl: and they four had one likeness: and their appearance and their work [was] as it were a wheel in the middle of a wheel.
Eze 1:17 When they went, they went upon their four sides: [and] they turned not when they went.
Eze 1:18 As for their rings, they were so high that they were dreadful; and their rings [were] full of eyes round about them four.
Eze 1:19 And when the living creatures went, the wheels went by them: and when the living creatures were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up.
Eze 1:20 Whithersoever the spirit was to go, they went, thither [was their] spirit to go; and the wheels were lifted up over against them: for the spirit of the living creature [was] in the wheels.
Eze 1:21 When those went, [these] went; and when those stood, [these] stood; and when those were lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up over against them: for the spirit of the living creature [was] in the wheels.
Eze 1:22 And the likeness of the firmament upon the heads of the living creature [was] as the color of the terrible crystal, stretched forth over their heads above.
Eze 1:23 And under the firmament [were] their wings straight, the one toward the other: every one had two, which covered on this side, and every one had two, which covered on that side, their bodies.
Eze 1:24 And when they went, I heard the noise of their wings, like the noise of great waters, as the voice of the Almighty, the voice of speech, as the noise of an host: when they stood, they let down their wings.
This passage is very interesting, and some people have tried to twist the Bible to suggest these are alien creatures. However, the context shows they are messengers of God. More specifically, they were Cherubim, a class of angels.
The Bible Does Not Support Aliens (Extra Terrestrials)
Despite the fascinating notion of there being various forms of intelligent life out there, the fact is that the Bible simply doesn’t support the idea of life on other planets.
God’s word describes the events of creation in the Book of Genesis. God created the heavens and the earth, and all that’s in it within 6 days. This account makes no mention of any other created beings, and in fact, God didn’t even create woman until after Adam had named all of the animals.
Also, even though many try to argue that this vast universe must surely be made for other creatures too, the creation story clearly states that the moon and stars were created for seasons and signs for Earth.
And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
In other words, God created all of that other matter for Earth’s benefit alone. Even though it may seem as if the stars produce little if any light, every little bit of light and radiation from them has an impact on our planet.
In addition, the Book of Revelation clearly tell us that the entire earth and heavens will be destroyed one day in God’s judgment, and it will be replaced by a new Heaven and a new Earth. God will dwell with man on this new Earth He will create. This account is perhaps the strongest evidence of there being no such thing as aliens, for this final book of the Bible sums up all of the end times that will take place. Once again, no mention is made of aliens. So if aliens did exist, why would God destroy the entire heavens, and create a new Heaven and new Earth? And why would God only dwell on this new Earth, if there are other planets with life on them?
The Bible also teaches that sin came through Adam, and entered mankind. It also says that Jesus died for the sins of the whole world, not the whole universe.
Another important fact to keep in mind is that most scientific research shows that it would be very unlikely that other galaxies or planets could sustain life due to the conditions during the big bang. Most scientists think Earth could be the only known planet or galaxy to sustain and grow life.
Lastly, have you ever truly considered how unique planet Earth is? Earth itself is one of the strongest evidences of a creator, as God’s word is completely focused on Earth alone. Earth is positioned just far enough from the sun to have light and a source of warmth and energy. If it were closer, it would be too hot to sustain life. If it were further, it would be too cold. Earth spins at just the right speed to sustain life. If it spun slower, the temperatures would be off dramatically.
Earth has a unique blend of elements necessary for life to thrive. Compare our planet to all of the other planets in our solar system alone. All of the other planets explored or photographed so far are nothing but barren wastelands. They contain little, if any, life sustaining elements such as water. Also, all scientific digs so far have returned zero evidence of life, even in the most simplest forms.
Earth, on the other hand, has so much life that you could go out right now and sample any pond, any pile of dirt, even ice in Antarctica, and find all sorts of complex life forms inside.
Arguments For the Existence of Aliens:
One argument used to support the idea of aliens is the vast number of sightings, pictures, and claimed abductions. But then again, many of these have been proven to be hoaxes. Perhaps some are real, but that doesn’t mean they are space craft. They are mostly likely unknown military craft, weather balloons, air planes, drones, satellites, and other similar objects.
Another argument could be that the universe is so large, it isn’t likely that the Earth is the only planet or the Milky Way is the only galaxy with life. However, so far there are no real traces of life anywhere. And the galaxies and planets that could possibly sustain life are so far away, we could never survive the trip in space to try and find them.
Why Did God Create All Those Universes?
This begs the question: Since the universe is so vast, why on Earth would God go to all that trouble to create it if He only wanted planet Earth to exist? My reply: What trouble? God speaks and atoms move. God blasted the whole universe into existence by saying, “Let there be.” There is no “trouble” for God to do anything.
Also, the Bible tells us the reasons God did all of that. One reason is that the stars do impact Earth by giving light, radiations, and even possible gravitational effects.
Second, God’s word says this:
The heavens declare his righteousness, and all the people see his glory.
The universe is so vast, it literally SCREAMS of God’s majesty and power. We can look at the complex workings of the universe and know there was an intelligent creator behind it. In fact, Paul said that the universe demands a creator, and that those who don’t believe are without excuse:
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
Lastly, if you ever feel overwhelmed when you look out into that great expanse in the sky, remember that you aren’t alone. King David, feeling overwhelmed by God’s great majesty and glory in His creation, uttered the following:
What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?
Conclusion: Do Aliens Exist or Not?
The Bible never mentions life on other planets, nor does it specifically mention aliens. The scriptures clearly teach that God created the heavens for His glory and for signs, seasons, and benefit for Earth.
While sci-fi movies do a wonderful job of making it seem as if there are eons of life forms out there, the scriptural and scientific evidence tell us otherwise. There is no Biblical base, or scientific evidence to suggest that any life forms exist beyond planet Earth.
The important question is not whether or not life exists on other planets, but whether or not you will have eternal life when Christ returns. Have you accepted Christ as your savior? Have you repented of your sins and trusted in the Creator of this vast universe? If not, I urge you to not wait another second. Today is the day of salvation.
