I’m Off the Herman Cain Train…

Well, what can I say?

When I first took note of Herman Cain, he fascinated me. He had a deep voice that commanded your attention. He had ideas that appealed to me (especially throwing out our mess of a tax code). He was funny, and he talked “common sense.” He also talked directly. He didn’t try to please everyone with his speech, and he said what was on  his mind (for the most part). He would actually answer most questions that were asked with his REAL feelings. That appealed to me.

I got excited, and I threw my support behind him. I even made a post telling how I was officially jumping on the Herman Cain train. Well, now I can say that I am no longer supporting him. In fact, I look forward to him stepping out of the race, which I predict will happen within the next month or so.

Why I’m No Longer Supporting Herman Cain

When the first allegations began coming out, I was skeptical. I didn’t know what to make of them quite honestly. The people seemed to lack credibility, and Herman seemed sincere in his responses and denials. I also reasoned that perhaps he did some bad things in the past, but repented to God and moved on. We all fall sometimes.

But this last allegation is just the tipping point for me. I believe the man has been dishonest. I believe most of what has been said.

I can accept if he was unfaithful at some point. I can accept if he made an inappropriate flirtation. I can accept if he even continued an affair for a prolonged period of time (even King David did that for a while after he sinned).

But what I absolutely cannot accept is a liar, and a man still trapped in his sins. I cannot accept a man getting on TV and bold-face lying (if he is).

Because if Herman Cain is lying (and at this point I’m convinced he is), then what it shows me is that he is STILL living a life of sin unrepentantly. As the bible says:

No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him. 1 John 3:6

I have lost total and complete respect for him. If he has done this–cheated on his poor wife so many times (and apparently so haphazardly), then I am disgusted.

In all honesty, I’ve just about lost all respect and hope for the state of our current political system. Is it too much to ask for to have a president who is a moral man, committed to the Christian lifestyle, and who actually has common sense, true leadership, and a hard work ethic?

Apparently it is.

In all honesty I am not excited about the GOP field. Don’t get me wrong–I know politics is usually about voting for the “lesser of two evils.” And just about ANYONE (a bum on the street) could probably do a better job than Jimmy Carter 2.0 (Obama) has done.  And I would gladly cast a vote over ANY GOP candidate (or even another democrat) just in hopes of changing America’s direction.  But I am just frustrated with the selection.

Here’s why:

  1. Newt–Everyone seems to agree that he is intelligent and highly knowledgeable about politics. But his past infidelities and the way he very hypocritically handled himself in the past turns me off. Yes, he would probably do a good job–But I have to seriously question his past behavior. But unlike Cain, at least he seems to confront the issue and admit wrong doing.
  2. Romney–The great flip-flopper. He is just too political for me. I feel like everything out of his mouth is “too smooth.” He has changed on issues, which leads me to believe he has NO REAL CONVICTIONS, and will just say whatever he thinks will get him elected, and then after that, will simply do whatever it takes to get re-elected for the next term. Plus I’m not crazy about his faith–but that’s not a big issue for me. And I think all of those issues together account for why conservatives don’t really like him much.
  3. Bachman–I know this is going to get me labeled as a bigot, closed-minded sexist pig–but I just don’t want a woman leading our country. I feel its a man’s job. Not because women are inferior (they aren’t), but because I feel that God has ordained men to lead. I’m sorry to offend, but I don’t want a woman in the office calling the shots if we get in a major war. I’ve yet to meet a woman that could give me that comfort that a strong male leader could give in that situation. Plus, Bachman’s debates seem so memorized. She says the same things over and over, and seems to have no real substance. Plus, who’s going to cook for the husband and clean the house (just joking on this one, get a sense of humor people).
  4. Perry–He just has no intelligence. I mean my goodness, I actually agree with the liberals that he is another George Bush. I saw him make a face the other day that reminded me of Bush so much. Its like he has his DNA in him or something. It creeped me out honestly. And I feel like he can’t be trusted either. I don’t want yet another “dummy” leading our country. We’ve had enough of those in the past decade.
  5. Santorum–I feel like Santorum is a good guy, but not quite ready for the role yet. Maybe in 10-15 years. He is a little to stressed, and the fact that he talks on and on and on past his time in the debates frustrates me. I just want to call him and say, “Santorum, stop talking when your time is up. We get the point.”
  6. Ron Paul–Ron Paul would devastate our country. While he has some good ideas that would be awesome, most of his ideas are way to extreme for me. I don’t like how he thinks the US can just take a seat and never get involved with world politics (and war issues). He squirms on certain issues that are clearly conservative issues. Also, I get the nagging feeling that most people are just crazy about him because he wants to legalize pot (yes, he is surely the potheads’ messiah).
  7. Huntsman and others–They aren’t even worth mentioning. Huntsman is a liberal in conservative’s clothing. I just don’t get a good vibe from him at all.

So that’s where I stand right now. I guess Newt is my top choice for the moment, although I am certainly not excited about any of them. I am definitely done with Cain. When it comes to allegations like these, an old saying comes to mind, “Where there’s smoke, there’s fire.”

Funny how no other major allegations are coming out about any of the other candidates. I’m sure they will try to dig up SOME dirt, but so far Romney has remained unblemished, as have some others.

I don’t think I will endorse another candidate again publicly. Unless someone just really convinces me that they are the real deal, I will be voting for the lesser of two evils each election. Yes, I will probably support whoever ends up getting the GOP nomination. But it won’t be enthusiastic by any means.
