These days, there are so many self proclaimed “atheists.” An atheist by definition rejects a belief in the existence in God. It seems like so many people today claim to be atheists, or agnostics (agnostic simply means a person doesn’t believe or disbelieve in God), as if it somehow makes them sound “cool.”
How Many Atheists are True Atheists-Even at Death?
No doubt, there are many atheists who reject a belief in God even while they are facing or experiencing death. There are even great examples of possible atheists in the Bible. King Asa from the book of Chronicles is a good example of such a person.
The Bible tells us that King Asa stopped seeking God, and at the end of his life he had a severe disease in his legs (2 Chronicles 16:12). And in the thirty-ninth year of his reign, Asa became diseased in his feet, and his malady was severe; yet in his disease he did not seek God, only the physicians.
So there is no doubt that still today there are plenty of “Real” atheists who reject God even in the end of their life, or even some “religious” people who no longer seek the face of God.
However, there are many so-called “atheists” who reject and even mock God, but once they realize they are going to die, or they find themselves in a stressful situation, they will turn immediately to the “God” they have denied their entire lives.
I remember that one time during Billy Graham’s sermons, he said that he had never met a true “deathbed atheist.”
But that is the great thing about God’s wonderful nature. God wants you to seek Him & humble yourself before Him. A great example of someone who rejected God, but then immediately turned to God in distress, is Manasseh.
Manasseh was Hezekiah’s son. And although Hezekiah was a faithful servant of God, Manasseh rejected God and worshipped other deities. But one day Manasseh was captured, and while he was imprisoned, he prayed and humbled himself before God (2 Chronicles 33:17).
God heard Manasseh’s prayer, and forgave him. He was returned & fully restored to power, and he knew God was the one true God.
Don’t wait until you are on your deathbed to humble yourself before God. God wants a relationship with you. He will not force it. He will allow you to do what you want. Free will is God’s gift to us. However, He desires to have a real relationship with you. And one day He will judge us all. Turn your life over to God, before it is too late.
